EPFO PF Balance Check Online 2026 — UAN Activation, EPF Withdrawal, Transfer & Passbook Guide

Employee provident fund PF savings India

If you are a salaried employee in India, a portion of your salary every month goes into your EPF (Employee Provident Fund) account managed by EPFO (Employees' Provident Fund Organisation). This is your retirement savings — and knowing how to check your balance, withdraw when needed, and transfer when you switch jobs is essential.

This guide covers everything about your PF account in simple language.

📌 EPF at a Glance: Employee contributes 12% of basic salary to EPF. Employer also contributes 12% — of which 8.33% goes to EPS (Employee Pension Scheme) and 3.67% to EPF. Current EPF interest rate: 8.25% per annum (2025-26). Interest is tax-free on withdrawal after 5 years of service.

How to Activate Your UAN

Your UAN (Universal Account Number) is a 12-digit number that stays with you throughout your career even as you change employers. You must activate it to access EPFO services online:

  1. Get your UAN from your employer or check your salary slip
  2. Visit unifiedmember.epfindia.gov.in → Click "Activate UAN"
  3. Enter UAN, Aadhaar/Member ID, name, date of birth, mobile number
  4. Enter OTP from your registered mobile
  5. Set a password — UAN is now activated

Link your Aadhaar and bank account to UAN for seamless PF withdrawal and transfer.

PF Transfer When Changing Jobs

When you switch employers, transfer your old PF to your new PF account to maintain continuity:

  1. Login to EPFO portal → Online Services → "One Member – One EPF Account (Transfer Request)"
  2. Enter old employer / old member ID details
  3. Current employer will verify online
  4. PF transferred within 20 working days
💡 Tip: Since UAN is universal, your PF account number technically moves with you when you give the new employer your UAN. Technically you don't need to transfer — the old employer's PF stays in your UAN account and earns interest. But official transfer consolidates it under one member ID.
