What Is PM Ujjwala Yojana?
Launched in May 2016 by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, PMUY provides a free LPG connection to women from poor households. Ujjwala 2.0 (launched 2021) simplified documentation, added migrant-family support, and provides the first refill and stove free of cost in addition to a deposit-free connection.

Who Is Eligible for PMUY in 2026?
- Applicant must be an adult woman from a poor household.
- Household should not already have an LPG connection in any family member's name.
- Belongs to one of the eligible categories: SC/ST households, PMAY beneficiaries, Antyodaya Anna Yojana, forest dwellers, most-backward classes, tea-garden tribes, islands/river-island residents, or a poor household as per self-declaration of 14-point criteria.
- Minimum age 18 years; KYC must be completed.
Documents Required
- Aadhaar card of the applicant (woman)
- Aadhaar of all adult family members
- Ration card / family ID
- Bank account passbook (for subsidy DBT)
- Passport-size photograph
- Self-declaration of household status (for Ujjwala 2.0; migrants can self-declare address)
Step-by-Step: How to Apply Online
- Visit the official PMUY portal (pmuy.gov.in) and click "Apply for New Ujjwala 2.0 Connection".
- Choose your preferred distributor — Indane, Bharatgas or HP Gas.
- You are redirected to that company's site; fill the KYC form online.
- Enter Aadhaar, family details, bank account and address.
- Upload documents and submit; note your reference number.
- Submit the printed KYC at your chosen LPG distributor for verification.
- After approval, the connection, cylinder and stove are delivered.
You can also apply fully offline by visiting the nearest LPG distributor with the documents.
How to Check Application Status
- Go to pmuy.gov.in or your selected gas company website.
- Open "Track Application" / "Check Status".
- Enter your reference number or registered mobile number.
- View whether KYC verification and delivery are complete.
